Cathedral used a big-time performance from Ball State signee Jarron Coleman in their home opener to run away from Howe by a score of 75-58. Coleman finished with 31 points while junior Armaan Franklin had a double-double for the Irish. Tony Hopkins led Howe with 21.
After Howe jumped out to an early 8-5 lead, Cathedral would close the first quarter on a 13-4 run and never look back from there. Every mistake made by Howe was capitalized on by the Irish, as wings Jarron Coleman and Armaan Franklin were the catalysts behind the spurt. The Irish lead would extend to 16 by halftime as turnovers and quick shots halted any progress for the Hornet offense.
Three-point shooting was a major difference in the game, as Howe made only one three-pointer in sixteen attempts. Turnovers were also an issue for the Hornets, as starting guards Kycia Washington and Jamil Turner-Hall, who were both hampered by cramps throughout the second half, combined for 10 turnovers.
Cathedral welcomes east side rival Warren Central to 56th Street next Friday, while Howe takes on Lawrence Central next Friday.
