Carmel vs. New Albany

New Albany is used to playing in front of sold out gyms, and it did so once again on Saturday night when they faced off against the Carmel Greyhounds. Behind the scoring of senior guards Romeo Langford and Sean East and strong rebounding from sophomores Julien Hunter and Trey Hourigan, New Albany pulled away in the 4th quarter to win 59-48.

 

 

All the attention was on Langford, and rightly so, but Carmel used a very methodical offense to slow the pace and keep Langford and the Bulldogs on defense. Langford and fellow senior Sean East did most of the scoring, but coach Jim Shannon got 18 points from sophomore forwards Trey Hourigan and Julien Hunter, who competed well on the glass against a bigger Carmel frontline. Carmel’s junior Butler commit, John Michael Mulloy, was a major factor in the second half after being saddled with foul trouble in the first half. That foul trouble would come back to haunt him when he was called for a charge with 4:25 left in the game, giving him his fifth foul and taking away Carmel’s biggest presence.

 

 

Cole Jenkins would do his best to keep the Greyhounds in the game with a team-high 17 points on a variety of daring drives into the paint, but New Albany was able to salt the game by going 22/24 from the free throw line, including a perfect 10/10 from Sean East.

 

 

Carmel is off until after Christmas when they go on the road to Anderson to face the Indians on December 28th. New Albany welcomes the Pike Red Devils to the shores of the Ohio River on Friday, December 22nd.
