Louisville Waggener traveled up Interstate 65 to battle Crispus Attucks Saturday evening.
Key Stretch
Attucks dominated the third quarter after trailing 34-28 at the half. Micah Poole had a big scoring night. He was a major part of the third-period success. The Tigers excelled when Warren Williams and Harold Bennett were playing their best. That occurred during the third quarter. Williams was a force on the glass. Bennett helped create steals then he set-up his teammates for baskets. Attucks outscored Waggener 23-8 in the third quarter.
Attucks won 65-61 after Waggener made it a game late in the fourth quarter.
Standout Players
Micah Poole was 8-14 from the field for 22 points. He also compiled five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Poole is a really good NAIA prospect. His shooting will translate as a freshman.
Kevion Hudson was tough for Waggener. He scored 21 points on 7-11 shooting. He had to step up because Jaago Kalakon missed the game due to a death in the family. Hudson nearly led Waggener to a fourth-quarter comeback, but it fell short.
Surprise of the Game
I was surprised that Attucks was able to pressure and turn over Waggener with the success they did. Waggener had 21 turnovers in the game. Attucks took a handful of charges in the game as Waggener attacked the basket. Turnovers were the major key to the win for Attucks.
