Armaan Franklin and James Franklin scored the first 12 points for Cathedral. The senior duo didn't slow down much as Cathedral dispatched Indianapolis Metropolitan on Senior Night.
The Franklins scored 16 of Cathedral's 20 first-quarter points. Met was facing an uphill battle, especially with senior forward Noah Jordan out with the flu. Cathedral did a good job of taking away Met's hopes early. The Irish defense did a great job of limiting looks and creating transition opportunities.
Armaan Franklin racked up 22 points in the first half. It was a dominant performance as Met had no chance of keeping him out of the lane. He finished with 34 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. The Indiana University signee was 15-20 from the field in 23 minutes of action.
Although Met struggled in the first, the Pumas kept the game in the 20-point range during the middle quarters thanks to Diazuan Golliday and Warren Williams. Golliday was productive in the paint for Met. He has good hands and a soft touch. Golliday compiled 14 points and 10 rebounds on 7-10 shooting. Williams started slowly but picked it up. Williams scored by slashing to the basket and drawing more than a handful of fouls. He had 13 points and eight rebounds in the game.
Cathedral started to blow the game wide open late in the third and early in the fourth quarter. Senior Justin Hensley joined the fun by hitting a couple of three-pointers. James Franklin continued to score at the basket and get to the free throw line. James finished with 18 points.
With the game in hand, Cathedral played senior manager Jackson Nierste. The Irish worked to get him a shot, and he was fouled on a three-point attempt. With the crowd on the edge of its sit, Nierste rimmed out the first two attempts. On the third attempt, he knocked it down and the crowd erupted. It was a great Senior Night moment.
Cathedral won 91-55.
Tayshawn Comer added 10, Grant Taueg eight, Justin Hensley six, and Haven Montefalco had four points and seven rebounds.
