IPSAC Evaluations: Part 1
Part 1 of our series breaking down the college prospects that played in the IPSAC/Midwest Challenge Showcase December 21st and December 22nd. 32 teams took part in the two-day shootout, and it was a great chance to see a lot of prospects. This article will feature players from Broad Ripple, East Chicago Central, Wapahani, Concord, Indianapolis Chatard, Fort Wayne Luers, Indianapolis Northwest, Andrean, Gary West Side, and Indianapolis Shortridge.

Broad Ripple
Muta Irving, 5-11 PG 2013, good quickness and pretty strong, but struggles with decision making, and is a streaky outside shooter at best. Non-college prospect
Darian Fitzgerald, 6-0 PG 2013, great strength for a point guard. He’s good with the ball and makes solid decisions. He can also shoot it from the outside at a decent rate. NAIA/D3 prospect.
Arian Stone, 6-1 SG 2014, had a pretty good game against Broad Ripple. He’s got a strong build, okay athlete, and is a decent shooter. He’s on pace to be a small college prospect.
Malik Fisher, 6-7 PF 2013, doesn’t get much production right now, but could be a project for a small college program. He is extremely thin right now and that hurts him rebounding. His shooting form is not good.
Chase Parker, 6-4 SF 2013, pretty low production against East Chicago. He normally gets most of his points and rebounds off of his energy and effort. He has not done much in the few games I have seen him so far this season.
East Chicago Central
Hyron Edwards, 5-11 PG 2015, struggled against Broad Ripple. He was just 4-13 from the field including 2-8 in the lane. He also had 5 turnovers against a Broad Ripple team that is not great defensively. The bright spot for Edwards was his 6-6 effort from the line. He’s a high-major prospect.
Damien Jefferson, 6-4 SF 2016, first look at the freshman, and I walked away very impressed. He’s got long arms and is very bouncy for a freshman. He played with great energy Saturday against Broad Ripple. Jefferson’s outside shot also looked good. He’s on the thin side right now (as are most freshmen), but it looks like he might grow a little bit more. He’s got a chance to be special.
Wapahani
Grant Evans, 6-4 SG 2014 (Wright State), did not get many clean looks against Concord. Most of that should be a credit to Concord’s defense. They did a very good job of staying on his hip. Wapahani did not screen for Evans much after the first quarter. Evans is not going to create his own shot one on one, and that is what he had to try to do most of the game. He finished 4-14 including 2-9 from 3.
Jacob Foster, 6-7 PF 2014, looked great at times against Concord and put up a great stat line from the outside, 19 points and 11 rebounds, but he was just 6-17 from the field. He looked great when he put the ball on the floor a couple times from the perimeter and attacked the basket. Foster is a good low-major prospect at this point with a chance to be a mid-major player if he continues to develop his skill set.
Tanner Davis, 5-10 PG 2014, is a pure shooter. Quick and consistent release from the outside, but does not have great quickness. He is more of a shooting guard than a point guard. Wapahani had Evans handle the ball a good portion of the game against Concord. NAIA/D3 prospect.
Concord
Franko House, 6-5 F 2013 (Ball State), solid game for House against Wapahani. He finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds. He only took 7 shots for the game. He defended well on the perimeter. He basically guarded 1-5 against Wapahani.
Filip Serwatka, 6-5 SF 2015, was one of the players that I wanted to see coming into the IPSAC Showcase. He is a very good shooter as a 6-5 sophomore. I do not think he will grow much more from this point. Serwatka did not start, but he played down the stretch. He finished with 10 points, and it could have been more because he missed a couple of bunnies.
DuWhan Alford, 6-3 SG 2013, is built like a linebacker. He’s a running back that is committed to Eastern Michigan for football. He’s a skilled basketball player as well. Alford shoots it well from the outside. He finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
Ghaneah Wayker, 6-7 PF 2013, not much production from Wayker against Wapahani. I only had him for 1 rebound and 0 points. He looks to have good length, but skill set is limited.
Ramon Johnson, 5-8 PG 2014, shoot-first point guard. He had a couple of big baskets for Concord down the stretch against Wapahani. Johnson has good quickness, but not great. He has a very slight build. Small college prospect.
Indianapolis Chatard
Joe Fagan, 6-3 SG 2013, ended up leaving the game early against Fort Wayne Luers with a dislocated shoulder, but he was great before the injury. He had 12 points and 7 rebounds in basically a half of basketball. He actually dislocated his shoulder twice. He returned after suffering the injury in the first half then was injured again in the third quarter. Fagan showed a lot of toughness coming back after the first injury. He’s a good student and is being under-recruited right now.
Delano Coffy, 5-8 PG 2015, ended with 17 points against Luers. He stepped-up in Fagan’s absence for Chatard. He’s a quick guard, and is a good outside shooter as well. His height is a drawback, and he likely will not grow any more. He’ll likely end up as a small college prospect with a chance to be a low-major prospect.
Stan Jackson, 5-8 PG 2014, is a very quick player. His quickness makes him a very good defender. He struggles shooting the ball although he hit 2 3s against Luers. He will need to improve to be a college prospect.
Fort Wayne Luers
James Blackmon Jr., 6-3 SG 2014 (Indiana University), the Indiana University verbal commit got off to a slow start Saturday. He was just 1-7 from the field in the first quarter. That changed drastically in the second period. He went on a spree and scored 17 points in the quarter, and he did not stop after that. He went on to get 39 points and 12 rebounds while also doing a large share of the ball-handling for Luers. He is averaging over 30 points per game on the young season. Blackmon looked explosive off the floor on a transition dunk, showing no signs of his ACL tear from last season.
ViJay Blackmon, 6-2 SG 2016, just had 7 points on 2-8 shooting against Chatard. He handled the ball a decent amount and did a good job with it. He is probably about done growing. He has pretty good quickness off the dribble, but is not very explosive at this point. Blackmon is lanky right now.
Randon Jackson, 6-4 SF 2013, did not play because his transfer from Marion was not approved.
Northwest
Harris Brown, 5-10 PG 2015, had a tough time shooting it against Andrean. He was 0-6 from 3 in the game. He does a great job of finishing around the basket although he is not a great leaper. He finished with 15 points and 4 turnovers. Brown has a chance to be a D1 prospect because of his quickness and toughness. He has to be better with shot selection and take care of the ball at a higher rate.
Justin Parker, 6-4 SF 2014, first time seeing Parker to my knowledge, and he played a great game. He had 11 points (3 3s and a dunk) in about two minutes of game action towards the end of the first half against Andrean. Parker finished with a team-high 20 points in the loss.
Tyler Alexander, 6-3 SF 2013, is built like a tank which makes him very tough to stop from getting to the basket. He is a lefty and rarely goes right. He was 3-5 from 3 against Andrean. I have never seen him shoot it that well from the outside before although his form is pretty good. Alexander could be very good at the D2/NAIA level.
Dre’on Lewis, 6-6 PF 2015, no production against Andrean. He was 0-5 from the field with two rebounds. He took multiple mid-range jumpers, and he is not consistent as a shooter yet. Lewis is not a great athlete either. He has a lot of work to do in order to be a D1 prospect.
Michael Brown, 6-3 SG 2013, was offered by Lincoln Trail (JUCO) Saturday after his game. He is a shooter with length. He doesn’t do much, if anything, off the dribble. We have him as a D3 prospect.
Andrean
Nick Davidson, 6-4 PG Andrean 2013, is always under control and does a great job of picking spots. He has a knack for getting fouled. He shot 9 free-throws Saturday and that is probably below his season average. Davidson is a good outside shooter, but looks to penetrate first and foremost. He sees the floor extremely well. Davidson and Ernie Duncan (2014 Evansville Harrison) break down the defense with the pass in a similar way. They use pass fakes and anticipate player movement very well. Davidson might not put up huge numbers at Valpo, but he will be a solid player for them.
Skyler Moss, 6-4 PF 2013, had 22 points and 7 rebounds against Northwest. He’s strong, undersized post player. Moss is very good around the basket though. He was also 7-8 from the line. I think he could help a lot of D3 and NAIA programs.
Collin Wojcik, 6-4 SF 2013, had 10 points and 7 rebounds against Northwest. He only took 6 shots from the field. He does not look to drive much. I think he has the quickness to get to the basket more, but he does not have the confidence in his ball-handling to do it more often. NAIA/D3 prospect.
Sam Toporski, 6-3 SF 2013, 14 points including a couple of huge 3s in the final 4 minutes. He was mainly catch and shoot from what I remember, but his shot looks very good. This was the first time seeing him, but he could be a small college prospect as a shooter.
Gary West Side
Arnold Wilson, 6-1 SG 2014, is a solid athlete, and good around the basket. His shot has no rotation, but he did go 10-14 from the line. He did not attempt a shot outside of the lane. Wilson is likely a small college prospect or junior college with an outside chance of being a low-major recruit if he improves his offensive skill set. His skill set has not changed much over the last couple of years.
Jare Glover, 6-4 SG 2014, pure shooter with good length. He had one basket off the dribble along with 5 3s against Shortridge. We saw him last year, but this was our first good look at Glover. He’s likely a juco or small college prospect.
Christian Jacobs, 6-6 PF 2015, struggled catching the ball the entire game against Shortridge. His touch was also not good. He is very long, but not a great overall athlete. He also did not rebound at a high level against Shortridge. Jacobs has a long ways to go to be a D1 recruit.
Antonio Poole, 5-8 PG 2014, did not play much for some reason. I think, it was clear that Poole was West Side’s best point guard, but did not play many minutes. He is very quick and sees the floor well. He did not shoot from the outside against Shortridge.
Indianapolis Shortridge
Kailen Guilleroy, 6-5 PF 2016, big, strong, athletic player especially for a freshman. He is likely done growing though. His athleticism is not great enough to make up for his lack of skill set right now. He will need to improve his jump shot to be a D1 prospect.
Josh Price, 6-6 PF 2014, very limited in his production against West Side. He did not start the game. Price was just 1-4 from the field, and he missed all 3 of his shots in the lane. He’s not an explosive athlete. I’ve seen him in AAU, summer league, open gym, and now the high school season, and nothing leads me to believe he can or will be able to play at the D1 level.
Chris Jones, 6-0 SG 2014, finished with 14 points in the blowout loss to West Side. He is a good athlete and all his points came around the basket. He did struggle with turnovers. He’s got a chance to be a juco or small college prospect.
Israel White, 6-4 SG 2014, had 11 points against West Side. He’s a good athlete and plays with good energy. He does not handle the ball well enough to be a guard at the next level right now. Juco or small college prospect right now.
Chris King, 6-3 SG 2016, did not play and is not on the roster. He may join the team 2nd semester. {/iACL}
