The University of New Orleans is a finalist with Kansas for 2017 center Mitchell Robinson. Robinson took summer school classes at Western Kentucky before leaving the campus in early July. It was believed that LSU was a favorite for Robinson, but they took themselves out of the running recently. Robinson was on the UNO campus Tuesday night. Robinson is one of the best defensive players and rebounders to come out of high school recently. His offensive game has progressed well in recent years. He had incredible numbers in the 2016 Nike EYBL against the likes of Mo Bamba, Deandre Ayton, Wendell Carter and other big time post players. UNO's coaching staff is filled with Indiana natives. New Orleans is led by Mark Slessinger, a Bloomington native. Kris Arkenberg and Bil Duany are assistant coaches from Indiana as well. Robinson went to high school just outside of New Orleans. He participated in UNO's team camp a couple years ago. Reports say that Robinson is friends with UNO freshman point guard Lamont Berzat. Robinson will need a waiver to compete this season since he enrolled at WKU. The NCAA has been more lenient in these situations in recent years. There is a still a chance that the NCAA would make him sit out the season. That could lead Robinson to playing overseas. It's going to be an interesting ride for Robinson. It would, obviously, be huge for UNO to land a McDonald's All-America, one and done player.

It looks like Robinson won't be attending college. He will instead either train throughout the winter or be picked up by a foreign professional team. Pro teams don't like to pick up high school players that they know will only be on the roster for a year. They aren't ready to contribute at a level to help a professional team win. In years to come, I expect more players to jump to the G-League out of high school as the league inches closer to a true minor league system.

The twists and turns have not stopped with Mitchell Robinson since August. Recap: Enrolled at WKU for summer school >>> Left WKU >>> Entertained Kansas, New Orleans and other college spots >>> Decided not to go to college >>> Went back to WKU >>> Latest, leaving WKU again. Will just train for a year before entering the 2018 NBA Draft. I just hope he really works on his game and ends up having a solid NBA career. He has the talent as a shot blocker and rebounder to do exactly that as long as he is focused on basketball first and foremost without listening to the wrong people.
