Every year there are many first round upsets in the IHSAA boys basketball tournament. There were a handful of surprises this year as well. We are guaranteed to have even more upsets Friday and Saturday night.
The biggest surprise was the 12-8 Concord Minutemen beating the previously 18-4 Warsaw Tigers. Warsaw is led by Nic Moore who was not 100% for the game due to a knee injury.
Rushville, 18-2 coming into the game, was upset by Shelbyville. That wasn't a huge upset considering that Shelbyville was a respectable 14-6 entering the game and only lost to Rushville by 3 in the regular season.
Bellmont, 3-17 in the regular season, beat Maconaquah in overtime. Maconaquah was 14-6 in the regular season.
Floyd Central, 14-8 entering the game, beat Jennings County who had a 19-3 regular season record. Jennings County beat Floyd Central on February 19th by 22 points.
Carmel, 8-12 regular season, dominated Noblesville who was 14-6 in the regular season. The margin of 22 was the most surprising part.
Columbus East, 7-14 regular season, beat East Central, 16-6 regular season. East Central beat Columbus East at Columbus by 9 a little more than a month ago.
