Baker to Lamar

Category: Baker to Lamar

Jeffersonville senior Darryl Baker has committed to Lamar University according to Hoosier Hills Hoops. Baker led Jeffersonville to the Seymour Regional title before they fell to Cathedral at Semi-State. He averaged more than 25 points per game this season.

Baker had an interesting high school career. He entered his freshman year with great hype. He was offered scholarships early by Xavier and Vanderbilt. He suffered a leg injury that kept him out of action his freshman year though. In AAU, he always played up with Sherron Wilkerson's AAU teams. Wilkerson is now on staff at Lamar. Wilkerson has been a mentor to Baker.

Baker never really dominated the club scene. He never performed too poorly, but since he was constantly playing with older competition he did not stick out. He averaged about 13 and 12 points per game his sophomore and junior years respectively. Those are solid numbers, but not near the expected output when he began his career. Baker's senior year was different. He turned in a great season.

It was expected that Baker would go the junior college route because of academics throughout this season. Instead, he will enroll at Lamar and sit out the year concentrating on academics according to the Hoosier Hills Hoops report. Baker will join 2012 Indianapolis Northwest graduate Donnell Minton on the Lamar roster.

Baker is a player that could certainly help Lamar. Lamar went 3-28 this season. Baker is a very good athlete, and a good shooter. He is a near lock for the Indiana All-Star after his play this season.
