Stock Rising: CJ Coleman

One player that has seen his recruitment skyrocket this spring is Mount Vernon's CJ Coleman. Coleman has picked up three scholarship offers so far this club season. Missouri-Kansas City was the first to offer followed by Northern Kentucky and IUPUI.

“Northern Kentucky was kind of quick. I've talked to UMKC for real long. Sean Bledsoe (new assistant coach for UMKC), I've talked to him for awhile now,” Coleman said of his offers. Sean Bledsoe has resided in Fishers the last few years where his son, Jacobby, played for Hamilton Southeastern. “Yeah. I played with his son, Jacobby, when I was a sophomore. And he liked me right then and there but he did not have a job at the time. So he said he was going to recruit me wherever he went real hard,” said Coleman.

Loyola and IUPUI were in to see Coleman during open gym this spring. He has taken unofficial visits to Northern Kentucky and recently IUPUI where he picked up the scholarship offer. Coleman said that Stetson is another program that has shown strong interest.

Coleman seems to have grown a little bit recently. He is a solid 6-3 now. He shoots the ball extremely well off the dribble especially in the 12-17 foot range. I do not think Coleman is an elite shooter from the outside. He shot 36% from 3 on nearly 100 attempts this season. He has great length. That length allowed Coleman to average 3 steals per game. His game has really improved over the last year.

Coleman is a player that many low-major to mid-major programs should plan on seeing in July. He plays for Spiece Indy Ice coached by LaSalle Thompson. He said there is no timetable for a college decision. If he continues to grow (physically and as a player), Coleman could rack up even more offers in July. {/iACL}
