Columbus North senior forward Elliott Welmer announced that he has committed to play basketball at St. Louis University. Welmer might not join the St. Louis team until the 2015-2016 season. He is undecided if he will spend a year at prep school after graduating from Columbus North.

Welmer said that the decision came down to St. Louis and Wright State. He took an official visit to Wright State in mid-November. Welmer also had scholarship offers in the past from Northern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois.

Welmer is a very good outside shooter especially since he is 6-foot-9. He also moves pretty well laterally. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor for a couple dribbles if the defense overextends while closing out.

The reason why St. Louis might want him to go the prep school route first is to put on muscle to his frame. Right now, Welmer is very thin for the level that St. Louis plays. Welmer said that he is not going to prep school for sure at this point, but it is likely.
