2016 G D.J. Wilkins Gets Offer

Category: Recruiting News

Indiana Elite 2016 shooting guard D.J. Wilkins took an unofficial visit to IUPUI on Monday and received his first scholarship offer. He also visited a Big Ten school on Monday. Here is an update with Wilkins.

D.J. Wilkins is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Merrillville High School (Ind.). He is a lanky guard that physically resembles 2015 prospect Jalen Coleman. Their games are different though. Wilkins missed a large portion of the high school season due to injury. He is also being recruited as a quarterback on the football side.

Wilkins has made strides with his outside shooting. He was almost entirely a slasher last spring and summer. The rising junior still looks to go off the dribble, but he is definitely a threat from the outside now. As Wilkins adds strength, he will become more athletic which will make his outside shooting even more of a weapon.

College coaches have been able to directly contact 2016 prospects since June 15th. D.J. Wilkins has fielded calls and text messages from coaches at Indiana, Purdue, Indiana State, Stanford, Western Illinois and IUPUI.  He took an unofficial visit to IUPUI on Monday where he received his first scholarship offer.

D.J. Wilkins also took an unofficial visit to Indiana University on Monday. Purdue and Indiana are two schools that have been in the picture for a long time now with Wilkins.

The Merrillville High School standout says that he will continue playing football throughout high school. He has received football interest from Central Michigan, Purdue, Indiana, North Dakota, Illinois and Ball State. Basketball is his favorite sport but it looks like he could have a decision between which sport to play at the college level.

D.J. Wilkins will play in the adidas Invitational in Indianapolis July 9-13, the Indiana Classic in Indianapolis July 17-20 and the adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas, Nevada July 23-26 with Indiana Elite 2016.
