Demetrius Jackson Interview

Demetrius Jackson is a 6’1” point guard from Mishawaka Marian. The junior-to-be has seen his recruiting pick up lately after having good performances at the Spiece Run N Slam and the adidas May Classic. Demetrius talked to us about his game and the recruiting process.

IBS: Did you see your recruitment increase after the Spiece Run N Slam?

Demetrius Jackson: “Yeah it picked up a lot. A lot of scouts I guess put out a good word for me.”

IBS: How did you like all of the media attention in Bloomington for the adidas May Classic?

Demetrius Jackson: “I mean, it is always fun. People know that you can compete but you have to stay humble and hungry to get better.”

IBS: Have you had a chance to visit anywhere yet?

Demetrius Jackson: “I’m doing some in June. My freshmen year I visited Xavier, Purdue and Notre Dame. I plan on visiting Michigan State the 21st. I plan to set-up something with IU for something later this month.”

IBS: Will you be attending any camps in June?

Demetrius Jackson: “Michigan (elite camp) the 11th, Xavier team camp June 18th and 19th.”

IBS: How seriously have you started to consider each college?

Demetrius Jackson: “Ever since the process began, I’ve been considering them all seriously. Maybe in June I will find out a little bit more about the colleges since I’m still new to the recruiting process.”

IBS: Have you thought about what you want to major in during college?

Demetrius Jackson: “I’ve thought about a few things. I’ve always wanted to play in the NBA. Now, I’m starting to think about other things if I don’t reach that dream. I’ve thought about business. I’ve always wanted to do something with sports so maybe something like being an athletic trainer or something like that.”

IBS: When would be your ideal time to commit to a college?

Demetrius Jackson:”I would like to… maybe after my junior season or even before just so from that point on the coaches would be able to tell me what I needed to work on. It would be like getting a head start. “

IBS: What are your biggest strengths on the court?

Demetrius Jackson: “My biggest strength is being a leader. With me being a point guard, it is all about leading my team. I play really good defense. I have always been taught to get down and dig in. Who wants a guy guarding him tight, guarding him hard and playing good defense on him?”

IBS: What areas are you trying to improve?

Demetrius Jackson: “Honestly, I want to improve my whole entire game even the little things. You can never stop becoming a better player. You learn from everything and just keep developing. Most importantly I want to work on my jump shot.”
