DSR/Hammons Commit

D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera was one of the top uncommitted guards left in the 2012 class nationally. That changed Saturday when he committed to Georgetown. He picked Georgetown over Louisville, Memphis, and North Carolina State. Smith-Rivera starred at North Central High School in Indianapolis for three years before transferring to national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Virginia.

Smith-Rivera is a 6’3” combo guard that uses his body extremely well. He has also become a great outside shooter after it was one of his weaknesses to start his high school career. DSR isn’t the most explosive player, but he uses change of pace and head fakes to perfection to get to the basket against top defenders.

Hammons to Purdue

A.J. Hammons, Oak Hill Academy teammate of Smith-Rivera, committed to Purdue Thursday night. Hammons played two seasons at Carmel before he transferred to Oak Hill for his junior and senior years. We had Hammons as the number 1 player in the 2012 class when he left.

Hammonds is 7’0”, passes the ball well, has very good hands, and has a bit of a mean streak. He’s not going to run the floor like JaJuan Johnson, but he will bang down low offensively and defensively.
