Isaiah Thompson To Purdue

Isaiah Thompson committed to Purdue Sunday. The 2019 guard is the brother of current Purdue point guard PJ Thompson.

Once Purdue offered Isaiah Thompson in the fall of 2017, it seemed like a formality that he would end up at Purdue. He has spent countless hours around the program with his brother, PJ Thompson, being a major part of the team for the last four year. The Purdue staff watched Isaiah closely for a couple of years before offering him in September.

Butler offered Thompson in October. The ability to stay home and play with good friend John Michael Mulloy was intriguing to Thompson. Mulloy was trying to talk Thompson into coming to Butler for the last few months. But in the end, Thompson decided to go to West Lafayette.

Thompson had a great spring and summer for Indy Heat 16U while playing for Jason Delaney. His play with the Indy Heat led to his first offer in May, Miami of Ohio. Thompson has backed up his play on the travel circuit during his junior season at Zionsville. Through eight games, Thompson is averaging 25.8 points per game on 46% from three-point range. He's also had 19 steals in eight games.

Outside shooting is the key to Thompson's game. When he is knocking down shots from the perimeter, it opens up his entire game. He's not the quickest guard off the dribble, so he needs defenses to overextend while trying to take away his shot to gain an advantage off the dribble. When that happens, Thompson is good in the mid-range (6-12 feet) with floaters and different angled shots.

Isaiah is a different player than PJ. But if Isaiah shoots with efficiency from deep, he will have similar success that PJ has had in a Purdue uniform.
