Interview: DaRohn Scott (2014)

We do not cover players outside of Indiana often, but DaRohn Scott plays for an AAU team that has a majority of Indiana kids. Scott plays club basketball with Meanstreets-Wilburn and his high school basketball at Grand Rapids Christian in Michigan. Here is what we had to say about DaRohn's game last year at this time..."DaRohn Scott 6’8 C Grand Rapids Christian (MI)-MeanStreets 15’s-Scott is a bit under the radar right now because he didn’t play varsity this season. He is a legit 6’8 and well built for a freshman. Scott also has explosiveness attacking the basket that most young bigs lack. It seemed like he had good hands and ran well but I only saw one pool play game of his. Big time potential though!"

DaRohn is bigger, stronger, and more skilled around the basket now, but his potential is still better than his current skill level by a wide margin. We had a chance to talk to him last week and here is what he had to say about his recruitment and improvement.

What colleges have shown interest to this point?

DS: I’m hearing Michigan, Michigan State, Xavier, Oakland, Notre Dame, and Western Michigan

Have you had the chance to visit anywhere so far?

DS: Yeah, I’ve been to Notre Dame, Michigan, and Michigan State.

Did you have a favorite college team growing up?

DS: Yeah, North Carolina-once I heard that Michael Jordan went there I started following them closely.

You look much improved from last season, do you agree with that?

DS: I still need to work on my face-up game. I’m able to score on my own a little better.

What part of your game are you looking to improve?

DS: I’m working on getting to the bucket (off the dribble) and my ball handling.

Do you expect to grow anymore?

DS: I haven’t grown much over the last year, but I think I’m going to grow a couple more inches and end up being 6-10.

You run really well for a young big-man, do you prefer to play in an up-tempo style?

DS: Yeah, I like to get up and down in a fast-tempo because I can usually out-run other centers and forwards.

Have you been doing offseason workouts?

DS: I’m lifting before school for an hour then shooting after school. I’ve been working on my free-throws and they have really improved.

How do you like playing with Drake Harris?

DS: We actually just found out that we are cousins. So, it is awesome to find out we are related.
