McCauley made his way to the Tennessee school after a post-graduate season at Redemption Christian. He had a few D1 offers and plenty of D2 options after that season. He decided to go to D2 powerhouse Lincoln Memorial. Last year, he made the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman team by averaging 9.8 points per game.
As a sophomore, McCauley was dominant for one of the best teams in the country. The Railsplitters finished the season ranked second in D2 basketball. Lincoln Memorial went 32-1 with the Indianapolis native leading the way. To score his 20 points per game, McCauley shot 43.6 percent from three-point range. He had a season-high 44 points against Lenoir-Rhyne in December. He was 8-10 from three in that game.
Along with his 6.3 rebounds per game, McCauley contributed 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
In high school, Indiana Basketball Source rated McCauley as the 15th best prospect in Indiana’s 2017 class. He was evaluated as a low-major plus prospect meaning he could be an all-conference player for low D1 teams. Although he went the D2 route, McCauley has lived up to that and more. It will be fun to track his final two collegiate seasons.
