Park Tudor’s Trevon Bluiett passed the 1,000 career point milestone last week. We thought it would be a good time to look how his game has changed over the years, and what we should expect from him at the next level.

Bluiett was in the starting line-up from day one at Park Tudor. He was a force on the boards as a freshman. He was great around the basket as he finished through contact at a very high rate. Bluiett was a good outside shooter as a freshman, but his release was very low. He has fixed his release over the years.

His weakness was always his quickness. He was 6-4 as a freshman, but was not very good laterally. His lack of explosiveness made college coaches leery for his college potential. Quickness is still an issue, but his production against the nation’s elite has silenced most of those concerns.

Bluiett is now a 6-foot 6-inch wing with scholarship offers from programs like Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Butler, Kansas State, Illinois, and Louisville. It seems like he is in no hurry to make a college decision while he chases his third straight state championship. Park Tudor is in a great position to do just that with Bluiett as the focal point for the first time. Yogi Ferrell was the star and go-to player during Bluiett’s first two seasons.

Bluiett will face some limitations at the next level. He does not create his own shot against top-notch athletes consistently. He does read screens well and is able to get to the basket coming off screens better than most high school players. He will need to develop more change of pace moves to get easy baskets at the next level.

Although Bluiett finishes well against contact, he does struggle in transition a little bit because he is not a high-flyer. This should be an area that he is able to correct since he knows how to use his body so well. He will likely look to create contact more frequently when he knows he cannot jump over defenders.

The best part of Bluiett’s game is his shooting ability. He is an elite shooter. He has a quick release and deep range to go along with it. Bluiett is very good shooting off the dribble. He has developed a step-back move and that will likely be a move he depends on greatly to get his shot off against elite athletes.

Choosing the right program will be crucial for Bluiett. For instance, a dribble-drive offense like Kentucky likely would not be the best as he would have to create off the dribble too often. He could excel in a system that screens away from the ball at a high rate. A team that plays zone defense would also help Bluiett. He is used to playing zone since that is all Park Tudor has played his whole high school career.

No matter where Trevon Bluiett ends up going, he will be able to contribute with his great shooting ability. His size and strength will mask his lack of quickness to a degree. Many people will be surprised by his success since he lacks the elite athleticism we are used to at the high-major level. He has produced at the highest level through his career, so I will not be one that doubts his college potential. {/iACL}
