It was a rematch of a game that was played just three days earlier. Homestead beat Fort Wayne Bishop Luers 71-59 in that match. This game turned out to nearly have the same score.
Early in the game, Homestead had some ball handling miscues. It looked like Luers could use its pressure to get extra possessions. Homestead calmed down after a few possessions and took could of the game with its outside shooting. Tahj Curry, Jack Ferguson and Parker Manges all hit three point shots in the opening quarter.
Much like the first quarter, Homestead had some turnovers early in the second period. That helped Luers stay in the game. Ray Walker and Jason Davis were beneficiaries of the turnovers. Walker scored eight of his 23 points in the second quarter.
Junior center Brandon Durnell helped steady Homestead. He scored eight points in the second period. Durnell did a very good job in the paint – scoring and rebounding.
It was a back and forth game until junior guard Jack Ferguson started to rain three pointers. Ferguson knocked down two triples in the third quarter then hit two more in the fourth quarter. He scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half to spark Homestead.
Freshman Sydney Curry was efficient when he touched the ball for Luers. He didn't get many opportunities though. Homestead did a good job of keeping him off the glass which limited his scoring chances. He finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
Senior guard Tahj Curry was strong throughout. He does a lot of little things for this team along with scoring. He ended with 16 points and nine rebounds for Homestead.
Homestead stretched the lead out late before Luers added a couple of late baskets. Homestead walked away with the 72-60 victory. They will play the winner of Carroll/South Side on Wednesday.
