In a match-up of two of the top 3A teams in the state, NorthWood faced Danvile at the Marion Classic. NorthWood entered the game with a record of 7-1 (Fishers beat NW 49-48) while Danville was 5-1 with a two point loss to Martinsville. It lived up to the hype.
The game started with both teams turning the ball over a bit more than they liked. NorthWood could have opened up the game if it weren't for the turnovers. They even had a lucky break where a tipped ball went to Dakiyron Fox for a layup.
Turnovers really haunted NorthWood in the second quarter. Due to the turnovers, Danville opened the period with eight straight points. Danville retained the lead for a majority of the quarter before Fox scored five straight points to give NorthWood the lead late in the quarter.
Danville senior Ryan Cloncs found his shooting rhythm in the second period. He made four of five shots in the quarter on his way to 12 first half points. Most of his production came in the mid-range either catch and shoot or one dribble pull ups.
Fox started to dominate the paint in the minutes before halftime. He scored seven points in the final minutes of the second quarter to get NorthWood back in the lead. Fox had 11 points in the first half.
Fox picked up his third foul early in the third period. That sent him to the bench. 2017 guard Vincent Miranda picked up the slack in his place. Miranda scored 10 points in the quarter including two triples. NorthWood led by three, 45-42 going to the final period.
The fourth quarter was played with a four point window highlighted by the final 90 seconds where Miranda hit a three pointer to put NorthWood up 57-55. Cloncs answered back with his first three pointer of the game. Braxton Linville came right back for NorthWood with a driving layup.
Danville had an open three point attempt from Jake Elliott, but it didn't go. Miranda went to the line with 29 seconds left and missed the front end of the bonus. Elliott immediately threw a long pass to Cloncs for a layup to take back the lead for Danville.
Linville rushed down the court and got a good look in the lane. It missed and after a scramble for the ball, Miranda put up an acrobatic shot while losing the ball on the way up and got it to go. Danville ended up getting a shot in the paint to win the game with under four seconds left, it didn't go.
NorthWood won 61-6-. Vincent Miranda ended with 23 points. He had 17 in the second half. Dakiyron Fox ended with 15, Braxton Linville 12 points and eight assists.
Ryan Cloncs had a game-high 27 points including 11 points in the fourth quarter. He was tremendous throughout the game for Danville. Jake Elliott finished with 13 points and seven assists.
