The battle for Richmond brought out a very good crowd. The crowd forced a delay in the start because so many fans were waiting to get into the building. It lived up to the pregame excitement.
Junior guard Billie Webster III produced the early points for Seton Catholic. He scored eight points in the opening quarter to give them an advantage. Trey Griffin got the Richmond offense moving with his outside shooting. It was all knotted after one period of play.
Seton Catholic star Desmond Bane started to roll in the second period. He scored six points in the quarter but he was also on the glass and setting up his teammates. Bane used that confidence to start cooking in the third. Bane scored 13 points in the quarter to push Seton's lead to 15 points.
Adrion Gibson kept Richmond in the game with his third quarter play. He scored nine points in the third quarter. Gibson then scored seven point to begin the fourth. His points in the fourth started to cut into Seton's lead.
Trey Griffin hit a couple big three pointers in the fourth. He hit one to bring Richmond within 51-50. Trent Reichley answered right back to extend Seton's lead.
Gibson played out of his mind in the second half. The senior forward hit his first 10 shots of the second half before finishing 11-12. Every time that Richmond needed a bucket, he delivered.
Bane didn't take a single shot from the field in the fourth quarter. He did handle the ball and go to the line 11 times though. He hit all 11 in the final period.
Richmond forced Bane to turn it over with about 30 seconds left. Richmond ended up taking a bad shot instead of going back to Gibson when they were down two points.
Bane went back to the line and salted the game away with under 10 seconds left.
Seton Catholic won 62-58. Bane finished with 33 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, four blocks and seven turnovers. Richmond's star of the game Adrion Gibson finished with 28 points and nine rebounds.
