Park Tudor had a surprising loss to Pike Central over the holiday break. It was the first loss of the season for the Panthers and they entered Wednesday's game against Lawrence Central with the record of 9-1. Lawrence Central suffered an overtime loss at East Chicago Central over the weekend. The Bears sat at 10-2 prior to the Park Tudor match-up.
Jaren Jackson Jr. scored in the paint a few seconds into the game and it looked like that might be Park Tudor's recipe for success in this game. The Panthers failed to milk that option the rest of the way. Park Tudor didn't get the ball to Jackson in the post very often after the open possessions. Then Jackson moved to the perimeter for most of the middle quarters.
The perimeter shooting worked well for Lawrence Central though. Mekhi Biffle knocked down a couple of early three pointers to get Lawrence Central on track. Biffle shot the ball well from behind the arc the entire game. He finished 3-5 from the three point line.
Virginia signee Kyle Guy has been extremely efficient this year and Wednesday night was no different. He was strong from start to finish, but it was the third quarter where he asserted himself and put the game away for Lawrence Central. Guy scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the third period.
Lawrence Central coasted in the fourth quarter on its way to the 69-50 victory. Guy finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Mekhi Biffle had 21 points and six rebounds. Jaren Jackson Jr. recorded 15 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks. Kobe Webster added 15 points in the loss.
