In a rematch of a game played just five days ago, Lawrence North faced Southport on Wednesday night. During the Marion County Tournament, Lawrence North defeated Southport by the score of 53-52. Southport tried to changed that outcome Wednesday.

Morehead State signee Djimon Henson had other ideas early in the game. Henson converted two of four three pointers in the first quarter on his way to eight points. His production pushed Lawrence North to a 16-11 advantage after one stanza.

Butler signee Joey Brunk was able to cut into the deficit for Southport to begin the second quarter. He scored five quick points and Southport was looking good. Lawrence North was able to answer back with its own post player, Ra Kpedi. He scored four points to get the Wildcats back on track..

Lawrence North led 27-22 at halftime.

Paul Scruggs and Southport played well at the start of the second half. Scrugs scored four of the first nine Southport points in the second half. Those nine points gave Southport a lead after trailing most of the first half. It was a tight game the rest of the way.

Senior guard Ethan Jarrett hit a pull-up jumper from about 14 feet to tie the game around the three minute mark. Southport then controlled the ball for a couple minutes before running a set to get Brunk the ball on the block. He was able to score with under a minute to play.

Lawrence North was able to get a couple of really good scoring opportunities. Kevin Easley had a drive to the paint, but it ended up getting blocked out of bounds. Djimon Henson had a clean look at a mid-range jumper; that didn't go down either.

Scruggs was able to hit one of two free throws to put Southport up three points with a dozen seconds left. After the ball was knocked out of bounds and a Lawrence North timeout, the inbound pass went to Easley. As he was driving from near half court, Easley was called for an offensive foul as he pushed off with his right arm.

Brunk sealed the game with two free throws. Southport won 46-41. Paul Scruggs led all scorers with 14 points while Brunk added 11. Senior David Reyes gave the Cardinals production off the bench with nine points.

Lawrence North was led by Henson's 12 points. Easley added nine in the loss.
