The 4A #1, New Albany, faced off with Evansville North on Friday night. The Bulldogs showed why they are ranked as the best team in Indiana at the moment throughout the game.
It was a slow start before New Albany took control of the game. The Bulldogs used a spurt to lead 13-3 early in the game. Sophomore Romeo Langford and senior guard Josh Jefferson played well from the start. The duo combined for 15 points in the first quarter.
In the opening quarter, Evansville North had most of its offense created by senior point guard Justice Dixon. He sliced up the New Albany full court pressure at times. He tallied four assists in the first period. Dixon was finding teammates behind the New Albany defense for easy layups.
New Albany didn't step off the gas in the third quarter. The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 14-5 run to crush any Evansville North comeback hopes. Most of the New Albany came from Romeo Langford. The 2018 prospect scored 17 points in the third quarter. In comparison, North only scored 12 points as a team in the period.
Langford was the main show as he went 10-18 from the field. He finished with 34 points and 10 rebounds. New Albany also received strong performances from Josh Jefferson, Isaac Hibbard, Rondale Moore and then Sean East lit it up in the fourth. All five players had 13 or more points in the game.
In the loss, Justice Dixon played well throughout. He finished with 14 points and eight assists by my unofficial stats. Max McCool shot well and finished with 15 points. 2018 wing Cameron Seaton had his moments before finishing with eight points.
New Albany moved to 13-1 on the season with the victory. Evansville North dropped to 6-9 with the loss.
