The 2017 class is a talented and deep group. There were thoughts of the juniors pulling a rare upset of the seniors, but the seniors wasted no time eliminating that possiblity. The seniors won 118-96 at Bloomington High School South on Tuesday evening.
The juniors did not lead for one second of the game. The seniors came out aggressive from the tip. Kyle Guy, CJ Walker and Tremell Murphy were attacking the paint on every touch. The seniors lead was 24-8 with a blink of the eye. "The Region" guys Tremell Murphy and Eugene German played a major role in the fast start. Muprhy had four quick points then German came off the bench and lit it up. German scored 13 points in the first half.
The lead for the seniors reached 33 points in the first half. The outcome of the game was never in doubt after a couple minutes of play.
Nearly every senior had a strong game on Monday. Butler-bound center Joey Brunk finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. He shot well from the outside as he went 2-2 from three-point range. CJ Walker piled up 17 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kyle Mallers scored 13 points on five shots.
After a dismal first half, the juniors had some bright spots in the second half. Kris Wilkes scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half. He looked like the elite recruit that he is during the second half. Sasha Stefanovic got his first dunk in a game. Stefanovic finished with 15 points on seven shots. Paul Scruggs filled the stat sheet with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
