The opening round of the 97th annual Marion County Tournament took place on Tuesday amid snowy weather and frigid temperatures outside. Inside gyms around the Indianapolis area, teams battled for the right to advance to quarterfinal play on Wednesday. On the city's southeast side, 3A #3 Park Tudor faced off against 4A #9 Franklin Central.

Southport 70, North Central 48

North Central has been the number one team in the state since the beginning of the season. They had a scare in the first round of the Marion County Tournament Wednesday as the Panthers beat Lawrence Central 54-53. Southport was tabbed as one of the best teams in the state in the preseason as well. Four of the five losses on the season came by a combined 10 points. Thursday night's quarterfinal game shaped up to be a test for both teams.

Lawrence Central against North Central was the match-up that the Indiana high school basketball community wanted to see. Unfortunately for the two teams, it came in the first round of the Marion County Tournament. North Central is the number one team in the state and Lawrence Central isn't far behind them. This game lived up to the hype.
