Broad Ripple and Covenant Christian were each looking to right the ship on Thursday evening. Broad Ripple was coming off a loss to Brebeuf while Covenant Christian was 0-4 despite being competitive in each game.
Samuel Colbert and Broad Ripple wasted no time jumping on Covenant Christian. The Rockets scored the first 13 points of the game. Colbert had five of those points.
“My mindset in the game was to really stop Jordan Webb,” Sam Colbert told Indiana Basketball Source. “He dropped 40 points on Northeastern the other night. We came into the game looking to play good defense. The 13-0 run was just a bonus.”
Broad Ripple made things tough on Webb all night. The junior guard finished with eight points on 4-12 shooting from the field. The Covenant Christian offense stalled without production from Webb.
Caleb Brown and Demetrius Young had a field day against the smaller Covenant Christian defenders. The two combined for 26 points on 11-15 shooting. Many of their points came from Sam Colbert assists as well.
After Broad Ripple started the game 13-0, Covenant Christian was never able to cut the deficit to under nine points. The Rockets shot 60.8% from the field for the game.
“I think, we’ll be able to shoot like we did tonight throughout the season,” said Caleb Brown of the hot shooting by Broad Ripple. “That’s what we are capable of. That’s what we’ve been showing in practice.”
Broad Ripple faces Indianapolis Howe on Saturday while Covenant Christian welcomes Scecina to the west side also on Saturday.
