Fort Wayne North Side used a Davontae Kinnie layup to sneak by Lawrence Central 42-40 at the Marion Classic.
It was all Lawrence Central early in the game. The Bears jumped out to a 9-2 lead before North Side got their footing. The Legends answered with an 11-0 run to end the first quarter. It looked like North Side might run away from Lawrence Central from there as the North Side lead reached 12 points. That was not the case.
North Side’s offense hit the skid in the second half. The Legends were getting good shots but they weren’t converting them. Lawrence Central wasn’t lighting up the scoreboard in the second half either but they were making some plays. Senior Eric Easter had a big-time dunk on a fast break. Lawrence Central took the lead back in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was a war of attrition as both teams struggled to score. Lawrence Central scored two points in the period…two. That being said, North Side was in the same boat. The Legends only scored seven points in the stanza. The biggest points came from senior Davontae Kinnie when he drove from the left side of the court and scored at the basket with 29.1 seconds left.
Lawrence Central had a few good opportunities to score on the final possession, but the Bears weren’t able to get any of the shots to fall.
