Horizon Christian and Leo met in the semifinal leading to the fifth place game at the Huntington Holiday Hoops Tournament Friday.
One of the main storylines was the sophomore power forward Sydney Curry. He took a hit to the head on Thursday. He was not himself after that. Curry played just 12 minutes against Leo. He was not with the team in Horizon Christian's final game of the tournament.
Ozzie Johnson created much of the Horizon Christian either by scoring in the paint or throwing outlet passes for easy layups. Da’Quan Sample was on the receiving end of a couple of the long passes for layups in the first half.
Johnson had 12 points and six rebounds in the first half. Sample scored nine.
Leo's Jeremy Davison was the only scoring in the first half. He only had seven but no one else was able to hit shots. He took over in the third quarter for the Lions. Davison scored 16 points in the quarter to erase an 11-point deficit. The game was tied going to the fourth period.
Sample and Johnson stepped up again for Horizon in the fourth quarter for Horizon. Sample and Johnson combined for 44 of Horizon's 75 points. Leo had chances down the stretch because of poor free throw shooting by Horizon but the Jaguars held on for the 75-68 victory.
Jeremy Davison was tremendous for Leo. He finished with 26 points and four assists in the loss.
Ozzie Johnson had 20 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, four assists and three blocks.
