Broad Ripple and Guerin Catholic entered Friday’s game on winning streaks. Broad Ripple’s streak was at seven games while Guerin had won three in a row and six out of seven.
The Eagles jumped on Broad Ripple right away Friday evening. Guerin Catholic was up 10-1 before Broad Ripple found its footing. Zach Munson was in the mix of most of the plays for Guerin Catholic. He scored four points, grabbed a few rebounds and passed out a couple of assists.
Sam Colbert’s shooting was able to get Broad Ripple off the mat in the second quarter. Colbert’s outside shooting was the main bright spot for the Rockets in the first half. Caleb Brown had a nice stretch where he scored five points, but the junior forward was quiet for most of the game.
Both teams struggled to knock down shots throughout the game. The only player that was able to connect on a consistent basis was Matthew Godfrey. The Guerin guard was able to hit five three-pointers on the night. He finished with 17 points.
The fourth quarter action saw both teams make plays. Kian Sills was in the passing lanes all night for Guerin Catholic. His fifth steal led to a breakaway layup that gave Guerin the lead at 38-36. Colbert was able to answer right back with a steal and layup of his own.
It was Godfrey and Munson that made the winning plays down the stretch for Guerin Catholic. Godfrey’s last three-pointer was his biggest. It gave Guerin Catholic the lead for good. Jack Hansen sealed the game at the free throw line as Guerin won 48-43.
Godfrey led Guerin with 17 points. Zach Munson added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. Jack Hansen contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
Broad Ripple received a game-high 19 points from Sam Colbert. He had four steals as well. Caleb Brown had 10 points and five rebounds.
