The second round of the Indianapolis City Tournament was played on Tuesday night. Arlington beat Covenant Christian on Monday to get into the second round. Howe had a first round bye.

Howe blitzed Arlington from the tip. It was 8-0 in Howe’s advantage before Arlington could blink its eyes. Turnovers were key all game, and Howe turned the steals into points early and often. Kycia Washington, Jefty Sultzer, Tony Hopkins and Jermaine Couch caused havoc for Arlington in the first quarter.

Howe led 27-11 after the first period. Arlington showed some poise in the second quarter. They were able to get Dejuan Wortham going inside. Arlington went on an 11-0 run to make it 27-20 midway through the second quarter. Unfortunately for Arlington, Howe returned to its havoc style to end the half on a run of its own.

After trailing 37-22 at the half, Arlington made another charge to begin the second half. It was Wortham again scoring in the paint and Lyriq Spencer making plays on both ends that spurred the Arlington run. A dunk by Wortham cut the Howe lead to six points. It was the closest the game would be the rest of the way.

From that point, midway through the third quarter, Kycia Washington scored 18 points. That’s 18 points in the final 12 minutes of the game to lead Howe to the victory. The sophomore guard was slashing to the basket which led to confidence with his outside shot. He finished with a game-high 27 points.

Howe led wire to wire for the 75-49 win. Howe advances to play Indianapolis Tindley in the City Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
