Brebeuf took down Cardinal Ritter, 60-45, in a Sectional 27 preview.

Key Stretch

After Ritter struggled to score in the first, the Raiders were able to chip away at Brebeuf’s lead early in the second half. Miles Tracy was finally able to get all the way to the basket to begin the third quarter. Once Ritter cut the deficit to single digits, Brebeuf answered back with the help of Jacob Pressler. He finished with eight points and eight rebounds. His energy on the offensive glass gave Brebeuf extra possessions all night.

Standout Players

Simon Banks shot 14 of Brebeuf’s 23 free throws on the night. He made 11 of them on his way to a game-high 19 points. He also had five rebounds and three assists in the win. Brennan Fitzgerald was the offensive threat early in the game for Brebeuf. He tallied seven of his 12 points in the first quarter. Myja White didn’t look for his shot much – 12 points on 3-7 shooting. He had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, though.

As mentioned above, Jacob Pressler’s eight points and eight rebounds in 11 minutes of action was huge for Brebeuf.

Nate Soltis finished with 14 points on 6-15 shooting with five rebounds, four steals and two assists. He was just 1-6 from three-point range. That was the only three-pointer that Ritter made in the game.

Miles Tracy was much better in the second half than the first. He finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, three assists and a steal.

Surprises

Turnovers. Both teams were shaky with the ball. Ritter finished with 20 turnover while Brebeuf had 15. Even with Shelby Turner rehabbing his knee, I didn’t think Ritter would be forced into that many turnovers.

Next Up

Ritter plays another sectional foe, Crispus Attucks, on Friday. Brebeuf will face Culver Academies Friday at home.
