In a match-up of Indiana Basketball Source’s #2 team, Ben Davis, and #4 team, Warren Central, it was the Warriors that come out on top 47-39.
Key Stretch
Friday night was Warren Central’s Silent Night which meant the Warrior crowd was silent until Warren Central reached 10 points. For most of the first quarter, it looked like the Warrior fans were going to be quiet until the second period. That was until Dean Tate and David Bell came off the bench late in the quarter to give Warren Central a major shot in the arm. Tate ended the quarter by getting a steal then drawing a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded. The triple gave Warren Central 10 points and the crowd erupted throughout the quarter break.
Standout Players
Dean Tate’s 17 points all seemed big. He came off the bench late in the first quarter then played the rest of the way. He was 5-7 from three-point range in the game.
Antwaan Cushingberry added 11 points on 3-6 shooting from three-point range. His shooting and willingness to move the ball helped Warren Central get some key buckets.
David Bell and Jesse Bingham were both best on the defensive end and on the glass. Bell finished with five rebounds and four blocks compared to Bingham’s three blocks. Bingham was matched up on Aaron Henry most of the night and did a good job of limiting his touches and easy opportunities.
Aaron Henry finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. He didn’t get much help on the offensive end until late when Jalen Windham picked up his scoring. Henry was 6-11 from the field, so it was an efficient night despite the loss.
Jalen Windham ended up leading Ben Davis with 17 points. He was 3-7 from three and 6-7 from the free throw line. He was quiet for the first three quarters.
Surprises
Ben Davis struggled to find a third scorer to Aaron Henry and Jalen Windham. If the Giants are going to be one of the best teams in the state, they need a consistent third scorer. No one else was areal threat against Warren Central. Now, Warren Central is one of the best defensive teams from top to bottom in the state. That being said, it was still surprising that no one else could find easy scoring opportunities.
Next Up
Warren Central is off until the December 23rd event at Indianapolis Manual. They will play Lighthouse CPA at that event. Ben Davis is back in action Saturday with another tough game against Brownsburg.
