Newly minted 2A #1 Frankton used a big second half from junior Kayden Key to pull away from visiting Wapahani on Tuesday night at Frankton. Classmate Rylan Detling just missed a double-double and senior Landon Weins hit 7 three-pointers on his way to 25 points. (Pictured: Peyton West)
With Wapahani opening the game in a 2-3 zone, Frankton worked to find the gaps in the Raider defense. One of those gap was found on the right side, as senior Landon Weins found enough space to knock down five three-pointers in the first half. Keeping Wapahani close was Peyton West, as the senior guard was all over the stat sheet, going for 5 assists and 5 steals in the opening 16 minutes.
Wapahani would trim their halftime deficit in half as the fourth quarter began, but Frankton never gave away the lead. This forced the Raiders to eventually extend their defense, allowing Key and Detling to have a field day scoring at the rim. Key would net 24 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, and Detling would hit all four of his field goal attempts in the second half as Frankton would gradually pull away to a 15 point victory.
Frankton now sits at 7-0 and will take that record into their game against 6-1 Shenandoah on the 22nd. Wapahani falls to 6-2 and will face conference foe Blue River Valley on December 30th.
