With a trip to the Marion County Tournament semifinals on the line, Roncalli beat Beech Grove in double overtime, 51-47.
Key Stretch
There won't be offensive instructional videos made with the tape of this game. That being said, Jack Hegwood was huge on the offensive end for Roncalli. His biggest bucket came on an offensive rebound where he powered through contact and finished. Roncalli didn't give up the lead after that. Hegwood recorded 18 points on 9-13 shooting. The rest of Roncalli was 11 of 40 from the field.
Standout Players
Hegwood was the biggest standout because all of his plays were important to Roncalli's victory. He had three offensive rebounds in the game along with his 18 points. He made plays as a defender as well.
Kenny Washington took over for Beech Grove late in regulation. The senior guard finished with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. His quickness caused most of the defensive problems Roncalli faced Wednesday night.
Jomar Seals was extremely active. Seals ended with nine points, eight rebounds, five blocks and two steals. His length gave Roncalli some problems on the glass and in the paint.
Surprises
It was 7-2 after the first quarter in Roncalli's favor. Then Roncalli had two points in the second quarter until Reese McGinsie knocked home a three-pointer in the waning seconds. Both teams moved well and actively worked for shots but points were not easy. The teams finished a combined 38 of 103 from the field including five of 28 from three.
Next Up
Roncalli moves to the semifinals of the Marion County Tournament to face Ben Davis. Beech Grove will be off until January 17 when they face Southport.
