In the quarterfinals of the Indianapolis City Tournament, Howe was able to come away with an upset on the road as the 6th seed Hornets beat the 3rd seed and 3A #3 Crispus Attucks by a 70-67 score Thursday night.
The Hornet backcourt of Kycia Washington and Jamil Turner-Hall combined for 37 points and their 3-2 zone defense held the Attucks guard trio of Harold Bennett, Micah Poole, and Jamal Harris to 12/37 from the field and seven turnovers. Howe led by six after a quarter before Attucks would storm back to tie the score at 23 midway through the second period. The first half would belong to Jamil Turner-Hall, however, as the senior southpaw scored 16 points in the first half.
Attucks would be down eight points at halftime, but open with six straight points to force a Howe timeout. That would be the story of the second half, as Howe would open a lead, then Attucks would reel them in. Jamal Harris led the charge in the second half with a pair of three pointers and putbacks off of offensive rebound opportunities for the Tigers.
Derrick Briscoe and Harris both poured in 17 for Attucks, but behind 26 from Turner-Hall and 19 from Brandon Bellamy, Howe would hold on for the win.
Howe will face off against Tindley in the second semifinal Saturday evening at Tech.
