The Indiana Junior All-Stars led most of the second half, but Kentucky pulled it out at the end, 90-85.
In another game in which Indiana was missing five of its six core players, Kentucky used huge games from David Johnson, Michael Moreno, and Kyle Rode to take down Indiana. Moreno set the tone with three early three-pointers for Kentucky. The 6-foot-5 forward was extremely confident with his shot throughout the game. He finished with 25 points on 10-16 shooting.
Armaan Franklin and Dawand Jones were able to keep Indiana afloat most of the game with their efficient play. Jones used his strength to create space and finish around the basket. He cleaned up a lot of Indiana misses as well. Jones finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Franklin had his jumper working Sunday. He hit a handful of mid-range shots including a few lean-back shots. He finished with 21 points on 9-12 shooting.
David Johnson was really tough for Indiana to contain. When he was getting into the teeth of the defense, he was either scoring or Kentucky was in offensive rebounding position due to helping stop Johnson. The 2019 guard tallied 23 points and 12 rebounds. Overall, he was the most impressive prospect on the court.
After being tied at halftime, Indiana held a small lead for most of the second half. Colin Kenney made some plays off the dribble on his way to 11 points. With Jones dominating in the paint, it looked like Indiana was going to get the victory. That changed down the stretch.
In the final minutes, Indiana had multiple defensive breakdowns giving Kentucky easy baskets. Kyle Rode stepped up in the final minutes to give Kentucky a boost. It seemed like he scored all of his points in the final minutes of the first half and the game. The Bluegrass forward finished with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Once Kentucky took the lead with under two minutes to play, Indiana struggled to get clean looks. Kentucky melted the clock for the 90-85 victory.
The Indiana Junior All-Stars will play the seniors Wednesday in New Albany. It is the only Junior-Senior match-up this year before the Indiana All-Stars play Kentucky Friday and Saturday.
