Ben Davis set the offensive tone with an impressive 11-0 start to the game, but Fishers weathered the storm and showed they weren’t going away. Ben Davis won the offensive showcase, 76-71.
The game looked like it was going to be a blow with Ben Davis’ start, but senior guard Willie Jackson got the Tigers back on track. He scored consecutive baskets to get Fishers under control and back in the game. Jackson continued his stellar play from start to finish. His aggressiveness driving the ball showed Fishers wasn’t going to be intimidated to attack Dawand Jones.
That didn’t stop Jones from dominating, though. Fishes sent multiple defenders to stop the senior center, but he scored around and over defenders then kicked out to his teammates for open looks as well. Jones was unstoppable on his way to 26 points on 12-14 shooting. He also tallied 11 rebounds, four blocks, and four assists.
Despite the domination by Jones, Fishers was up 52-47 heading into the fourth quarter. That’s when the Jalen Windham show began. He was 4-5 from the field and 7-7 from the free throw line in the deciding period.
For each shot Windham made, Alex Szilagyi and Willie Jackson had an answer. Szilagyi scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth quarter to keep Fishers ahead for most of the quarter.
Dawand Jones had a basket-shaking dunk to put Ben Davis up six points with a minute to play. It looked like it was the clinching points, but Luke Hernandez quickly knocked down a triple for Fishers. Hernandez had a great game off the bench – 11 points on 3-4 from three-point range. Fishers couldn’t tie or regain the lead because Ben Davis made its free throws. For the game, the Giants converted 16-21 free throws.
Jalen Windham finished with 28 followed by Dawand Jones with 26. Jeff Clayton added eight on 4-4 shooting.
Willie Jackson had 25 points to lead Fishers. Alex Szilagyi added 12, while Josiah Matthews and Hernandez scored 11.
