North Central and Evansville Bosse feature multiple non-senior college prospects. They squared off in Indianapolis Saturday. (Pictured: Kiyron Powell)

North Central started the game with a 15-0 run powered by two three-pointers from sophomore Mike Elliott and Jordan Bingham. Bosse was able to get a couple baskets plus an administrative technical foul against North Central to make it 15-9 after the first period. Freshman Matt Wagner provided a spark for Bosse with his defense.

Senior Javen Layne provided most of the offense for Bosse. He scored nine points in the second quarter as Bosse made its comeback complete. Layne had 13 points in the first half.

On the other side, senior Jordan Bingham was the steady scorer for North Central. He had 10 points in the first half as his teammates struggled to make shots.

North Central turnovers helped Bosse get back into the game. Bosse tied North Central at 21 late in the half before the Panthers took a 25-23 lead into the break.

After struggling in the first half, North Central’s Leland Walker and Charlie Peterson played better in the third quarter. They were a combined 2-13 from the field in opening half. Both were able to make more plays in the second half.

In the second half, Layne kept scoring for Bosse. He added nine more points in the third period to keep Bosse step for step with North Central. It was an overall great game for Layne as he rebounded, scored inside and outside, and moved the ball.

After not scoring in the first half, Kiyron Powell made a big impact in the second half. He shows a good looking jumper from the mid-range which he doesn’t need room or time to get off. Powell also picked it up as a shot blocker and rebounder in the second half.

North Central held a 45-44 lead going to the fourth.

Bosse grabbed a four-point lead early in the fourth quarter before the teams traded the lead a couple times. Then Lelan Walker connected on a pull-up three-pointer with a minute left to give the Panthers a one-point lead. After two free North Central free throws, Kiyron Powell tipped in a Bosse missed a free throw to make it 61-60 with 16.7.

North Central split two free throws when Timariyon Blackwell grabbed the defensive rebound with eight seconds left then sprinted it down the court to hit a runner on the right side to tie it with 1.5 seconds.

North Central had a look for Charlie Peterson at the rim, but it didn’t go down.

In overtime, Blackwell scored five points to push Bosse to the victory.

Bosse won 71-66 in a game that featured 43 turnovers.

Javen Layne 26 and nine rebounds. Blackwell recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kiyron Powell eight points, 11 rebounds, six blocks, three assists. George Madison had 12 points off the bench.

Leland Walker led North Central with 15 points, seven assists, four steals but was only 5-18 from the field. Jordan Bingham tallied 15points and seven rebounds. Mike Elliott 13 points and seven rebounds. Charlie Peterson 11 and five. Theran Johnson nine points and five rebounds.
