With the snow that hit central Indiana Saturday, Monday has transformed into championship Monday. The Marion County Tournament and Johnson County title games will take place Monday evening.
When the Marion County Tournament bracket was released, many predicted that Warren Central and Lawrence Central would meet for the title. It happened to work out that way with a few upsets along the way. The Warriors and Bears rolled through their semifinal games Friday night as Warren Central dismantled Pike and Lawrence Central took care of Southport.
For Lawrence Central to end the 45-game winning streak of Warren Central, the Bears will have to handle the pressure from the Warriors. Warren Central never lets up and it has a cumulative effect as the game progresses. Warren Central will have to avoid foul trouble as they chase Nijel Pack, D'Andre Davis, and Jacob LaRavia all over the floor. Those three stretch the defense to its limit with their outside shooting.
Not only will the title game be intriguing, but the two teams play their MIC game regular season game January 18. That game will have extra wrinkles to it.
In the Johnson County final, Center Grove takes on Franklin. It took Center Grove two overtimes to get by Greenwood in the semifinal. Franklin won an overtime game of its own against Indian Creek in the first round of the tournament.
Franklin always seems to give Center Grove a scare before the Trojans pull away late. Cory Richard, Drew Byerly, and Reece Thomson will try to complete the upset against Trayce Jackson-Davis and company. It should be a fun game.
