A northern Indiana Catholic school contest saw the host Marquette Blazers use an efficient offensive performance and 15 made three-pointers to run away early from 3A #6 Mishawaka Marian on their way to a 15 point victory. (Pictured: Colin Kenney)
The Blazers came out on fire from the tip, led by their Furman signee Collin Kenney. Kenney hit his first six shots on the evening, three of those from deep, as his team scored 28 points in the first quarter. Joe Andershock handled things on the defensive end with three blocks in the opening period, keeping the Marian Knights to just 13 points.
The lead would reach 21 at the half as Marian’s star junior, Jaden Ivey, was held to just five points in the first half. Purdue's Matt Painter attended the game as the Boilers have an offer out to Ivey.
Marian ran off an 8-0 spurt to begin the third quarter thanks to a Jerry Bracey steak and layin and back to back Ivey three-pointers. But Marquette was able to weather the tide thanks to their hot three-point shooting. Senior Dayn Staab hit a pair of threes in the quarter on his way to 11 for the game.
Marian would get no closer than a dozen the rest of the way. Ivey would score 16 of his team-high 21 in the second half, but it was not enough as Kenney would score 26 and Marquette would put three others in double figures to notch their tenth win of the season.
