The first Lafayette Jeff possession ended quickly with a turnover. The next trip was a Braxton Barnhizer three-pointer. Those two things - three-pointers and turnovers - were plentiful for the Bronchos Friday night.
Lafayette Jeff made four three-pointers in the opening quarter to jump out to an early lead. Braxton and Brooks Barnhizer did most of the damage for Jeff. The brothers score 19 of the 26 points in the period. Tech couldn't keep up with the scoring to begin the game.
Tech forced nine turnovers in the second quarter to stay in the game. Braxton Barnhizer still scored, but Tech found footing behind Hunter Jackson, Evan Turner, and Mason Moore. Jackson is back with Tech after transferring to a prep school earlier in the school year. Those three sliced to the basket after Jeff's zone did a good job of keeping them away from the paint in the first quarter.
To begin the second half, Brooks Barnhizer put his stamp on the game. He hit a three to open the half then score a layup. He followed that by creating a steal and throwing it down on the other end. Braxton added a three to push the Jeff run to 10-0 in a blink of an eye.
Tech showed great fight to answer with a 13-2 run. Calier Bridges provided a lot of the energy on the defensive end. He put his body on the line a few times which pumped energy into his teammates.
Jeff held a 19-point lead heading to the fourth and looked to be headed toward smooth sailing. But Tech finally had a few three-pointers go down, and the Titans kept fighting. Tech was only 7-30 from beyond the arc in the game but converted three in the fourth to get within 12 points. Jeff made plays down the stretch to hold off Tech. Ashton Beaver, D'Marco Cross, and Matt Jones made plays to support the scoring of the Barnhizers and Avery Beaver.
Jeff won 82-69 as Braxton Barnhizer finished with 30 points, four assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Brooks Barnhized filled the statsheet with 22 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Avery Beaver added 18 points. Ashton Beaver had seven points, six rebounds, and three assists. Jeff finished 10-15 from three-point range.
Hunter Jackson led Tech with 17 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Evan Turner and Mason Moore each had 17 points as well.
