Fishers put four players in double figures Friday night to withstand a double-double from Damieon Warrum and defeat Pendleton Heights by seven. (Pictured: Willie Jackson)
Warrum would score the first four points for the visitors, using a significant height advantage to score over smaller defenders at the rim. But his Pendleton Heights team would struggle against a press employed by Fishers, routinely turning the ball over and allowing the Tigers to score 11 straight to end the first quarter.
Alex Szilagyi would score the first five points of the second quarter and force a timeout from the Arabians. Fishers’ lead would eventually reach 16 at 24-8, but Pendleton Heights turned the tables as they were able to dissect the press and attacked it for easy shots. Christian Jones was the main beneficiary, as he scored all 12 of his points in the second quarter. The result was a 10-1 run to bring the margin to seven points before heading into the locker room.
Pendleton Heights would close further in the third, coming up with several loose balls and controlling the backboards. Forward Tristan Ross scored six in the quarter as the visitors closed the gap to three points entering the fourth.
A couple of close calls would go the way of the Tigers, as they began the fourth quarter on a 12-3 run to push their lead back to eight. Pendleton Heights would close back to six with 30 seconds left, but that was as close as they would get. The Fishers foursome of Alex Szilagyi, Josiah Matthews, Willie Jackson, and Jeff Simmons would combine for 53 of their team’s 55 points, and that was enough to overcome a 19 point, 12 rebound performance from Damieon Warrum.
