A decisive second-half drought erased Scecina's chances against Oldenburg Academy Saturday night.

Scecina took a 10-6 lead on a three-pointer from Jayvon Hatton. After a 1-4 start, Jacob Johnson scored five straight points to end the quarter for Oldenburg. He carried that into the second quarter as he dominated the action. Johnson scored nine points in the frame to give Oldenburg the lead at the break.

Senior JR Fulmore scored six points in the second quarter to keep Scecina in it. He was finding gaps in the Oldenburg defense and converting in the paint. Fulmore hit a triple in the first quarter, so the Twister defense had to extend. Then Fulmore used his quickness to go around them.

After relying on Jacob Johnson in the first half, Oldenburg turned to Eli Sporleder in the third quarter. He scored all nine of his points in the period. At the same time, Scecina only scored eight points in the stanza.

Oldenburg turned up the defense in the second half to force Scecina into nine turnovers. That doesn’t seem like a ton, but it was a low-possession game. The Crusaders only had 43 possessions in the entire game.

Behind the increased defensive pressure, Oldenburg went on a 19-0 run from the 4:10 mark of the third quarter until 2:29 was left in the game. Overall, it was a 22-2 spurt for the Twisters. Zach Wegman, Sporleder, and Johnson produced the most damage during that timeframe.

Oldenburg won going away 59-31.

2020 wing Jacob Johnson had 21 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists. He was 4-9 from deep and 5-7 from the free throw line. Zach Wegman added 12. Eli Sporleder contributed nine points and five rebounds. Andrew Oesterling tallied nine. Dempsy Bohman had five points and four rebounds. Kris Hetzer tallied three points, four assists, and three rebounds.

Scecina was led by JR Fulmore’s 11 points. Jayvon Hatton had seven points and five rebounds. Max White scored six. Matthew Funk added five, and Jalen Linton recorded two points and five rebounds.

Oldenburg is now 14-4. Scecina Memorial fell to 4-15.
