Andrean won the North Judson Regional by beating Westview and Marquette Saturday. The 59ers have been well-tested throughout the season and tournament, and it has paid off with success in March.
Sophomores Kyle Ross and Deshon Burnett led the way for Andrean against Westview. Ross had 17 points and 11 rebounds against the Warriors. Burnett scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to help Andrean pull the upset.
Charlie Yoder had 37 points in the morning game including 19 points in the second quarter to lead Westview over Bluffton. The junior wing scored 27 points against the 59ers.
Andrean won 60-49 to move to the Lafayette Jeff Semi-State.
Andrean and Marquette played a classic game in the morning. The 59ers built a 12-point lead going to the fourth quarter behind paint scoring and rebounding. Marquette made a quick comeback as it picked up the pressure and Andrean let off the gas.
Senior Jake Tarnow was huge for Marquette’s comeback. He scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to get Marquette back in the game.
Marquette’s all-time leading scorer Colin Kenney hit a three-pointer from the left wing to give Marquette a 67-66 lead with under two minutes to play. Andrean answered back with its own senior leader, John Carrothers, getting a bucket to give the 59ers the lead.
After a Kyle Ross layup pushed Andrean’s lead to three, Kenney found Jake Tarnow for a triple to tie the game with 27.3 seconds left.
On the ensuing Andrean possession, Ross created great post position and had a clean look at the rim, but the shot was off the mark. On the scramble, sophomore Nick Flesher picked up the loose ball and shot it as Kenney ran into him. A foul was called with one second on the clock.
Flesher made the first free throw to give Andrean the 71-70 lead. On the second attempt, he missed it on purpose. The shot did not appear to hit the rim, which would have given Marquette the ball out of bounds with the clock stopped. The officials ruled it hit the rim and Marquette’s last-second heave was no good.
John Carrothers had 23 points to lead Andrea. Kyle Ross had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Nick Flesher finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Colin Kenney led Marquette with 26 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. He turned in a big performance in his last high school game. Jake Tarnow had 17 points behind his huge fourth quarter.
