Center Grove's Trayce Jackson-Davis won the 2019 Mr. Basketball award at the IndyStar Sports Banquet Sunday evening.
The Indiana University signee was the clear favorite to win the award once Keion Brooks Jr. left Fort Wayne North Side for La Lumiere. Trayce Jackson-Davis then had the senior year to seal the victory. He averaged 22 points and 9.4 rebounds as Center Grove won the sectional and regional before losing to Ben Davis at the Washington semi-state.
In the voting, TJD received 179 votes compared to 73 for second-place finisher Brandon Newman. Newman is signed with Purdue. Armaan Franklin (Indiana) and Luke Bumbalough (Ball State) rounded out the top four finishers. Of the finalists, Jackson-Davis made it the furtherest in the state tournament. Indiana Basketball Source voted for Trayce Jackson-Davis as Mr. Basketball.
For the second straight year, Indiana's Mr. Basketball is heading to Bloomington. It will be a different feel for TJD compared to Romeo Langford. Jackson-Davis is expected to be a major piece for Indiana next year, but he won't be counted on like Langford was. The expectations for Jackson-Davis won't be outrageous like they were for Langford.
