The annual Forum Tip Off Classic many head-turning performances. Here's a look at the top individual showings. (Pictured: Silver Creek's Kooper Jacobi)
Kooper Jacobi – Silver Creek – 2021 – 36 points on 14-19 shooting. Eight rebounds.
Jacobi had one of the best first half performances that a player can have. He had 26 points in the first 16 minutes. With Caleb Furst defending Trey Kaufman, Jacobi took advantage of his size mismatch with Blackhawk Christian. He scored most of those points in the eight to 12 foot range. He sprinkled in a couple of three-pointers as well. He helped Silver Creek turn a deficit into a lead through his scoring onslaught. It was the third highest scoring total in a Forum Tip Off Classic game – Romeo Langford and Isiah Moore.
Caleb Furst – Blackhawk Christian – 2021 – 23 points on 9-11 shooting. 10 rebounds.
Furst had a big game, but it was overshadowed by Jacobi's outburst. Furst was unstoppable as he made 9-11 shots. He was slowed by foul trouble in the second quarter, but that is the only thing that stopped Furst. He was excellent on the block and popped to the mid-range for a few shots as well. To boot, he rebounded at a high level.
Khristian Lander – Evansville Reitz – 2021 – 18 points. Four rebounds.
Lander displayed his dynamic game against Carmel. He scored 18 points from all different areas of the court. Reitz threw Lander an alley oop off the tip which caused Carmel to call a timeout 11 seconds into the game. He buried a mid-range jumper off the dribble. Lander also hit two three-pointers. His combination of skill and athleticism make him one of the best prospects in the nation.
Blake Sisley – Heitage Hills – 2021 – 21 points on 9-14 shooting. Eight rebounds.
Sisley had a great game against Brownsburg. He showed his skill on the block over the size of Malek Edmonds. Sisley had a couple of great back to the basket finishes. He also showed that he can knock down outside shots. That's big for his game going forward, and it is something that he has shown flashes of in the past.
Andrew Welage – Greensburg – 2021 – 24 points on 8-14 shooting. Seven rebounds and three steals.
Welage had a highly efficient shooting day for the Pirates. He was 2-4 from three-point range. The lanky guard showed that he can score all over the floor. Welage slashed to the basket for a few buckets as well. He had four turnovers but offset it with three steals of his own. It was a strong showing for the Wright State signee.
AJ Dancler – Southport – 2023 – 22 points on 7-16 shooting. 3-5 three-point shooting.
The freshman was comfortable from the outside against Greensburg. His shot looked good as he knocked down three triples. He's a good overall athlete as well. He scored in the lane a few times on top of his outside shooting. Dancler is a player to watch in the 2023 class.
Pierce Thomas – Brownsburg – 2021 – 17 points on 6-13 shooting. Nine rebounds and five assists.
The highly athletic Thomas did a bit of everything in Brownsburg's win over Heritage Hills. He went 3-8 from three-point range and added a couple of explosive dunks as well. His all-around game was more impressive than his scoring. He rebounded at a high level. He also did a good job of locating shooters like Connor Lucas. Thomas was aggressive and focused from start to finish.
Pete Suder – Carmel – 2022 – 21 points on 6-11 shooting. Seven rebounds.
Suder has progressed as a shooter in the last year, and he displayed exactly that against Reitz. His form and release are excellent. He knocked down 3-6 three-pointers on his way to 21 points. Suder also went 6-6 from the free throw line. There's no doubt that he is going to be a high-level shooter down the road. As usual, Suder impacted the game with more than scoring. He also added seven rebounds in the Carmel victory.
