In a rematch of last Saturday’s Highland Classic championship game, Munster proved the first time was no fluke, leading from wire to wire in a rout of Lake Central on Friday night.
Munster started hot out of the Gates, with a Luka Balac steal and dunk to open the scoring. Clayton Bubash would score five quick points as the Mustangs raced out to a nine point lead in the first quarter. Both Balac and Lake Central Star Nick Anderson struggled to get on track early, but Anderson’s difficult three point at the buzzer would cut the Munster lead to four.
That’s as close as Lake Central would get. Munster would open up a double figure lead as Luka Balac would outscore the Indians by himself in the quarter, as the junior went for eight while all Lake Central could muster was a Nick Anderson triple and four points from Nate Oakley.
After halftime, it was more Munster, as the lead quickly grew to over 20 points as Munster continually forced turnovers with a man to man press. When Lake Central was able to get into their halfcourt offense, often times it was turned away by 6’8 senior forward Jeff Hemmelgarn, who had four blocks on the night.
Munster was led by Balac and senior guard Josh Davis, who each had 13 points. Clayton Bubash added 11 for the Mustangs. Lake Central senior guard Nick Anderson paced his team with 20, while junior forward Nate Oakley was the only other Indian in double figures with 10 points.
