On Friday night, 9-2 Guerin Catholic traveled to 7-2 Chatard for an intense game in front of a packed crowd. The Chatard girls were victorious over Guerin prior to the tip of the boys game.
Early on, senior Cameron Weitzel made a huge impact for Guerin. He scored 10 points including a couple of three-pointers to get the Eagles off to a fast start. He was also rebounding and doing the small things for Bobby Allen's team.
Guerin led 21-11 after the first quarter. Like most of the night, Chatard didn't stay down for long. Edreece Redmond sandwiched four points around a Pat Mastrian bucket for the first six points of the second period. A three-pointer from Noah Carter cut Guerin's lead to 24-22 three minutes into the frame. Kaleb Edwards and Bernie McGuinness stepped up from there. Edwards and McGuinness helped Guerin push its lead back to 12 points near the end of the half.
In the third quarter, the pace came to a halt. Guerin Catholic was in the bonus with a couple minutes left in the period. Joseph Bobilya's slashing and scoring helped the Eagles stay ahead of Chatard by double digits most of the quarter.
Throughout the game, Chatard playd incredibly hard. Redmond and Mastrian tried to get the Trojans back in the game. McGuinness and Bobilya made a couple big buckets to keep Chatard at bay. With Guerin in the bonus for the entire quarter, Chatard had to have perfect period to make a comeback. Even with a handful of turnovers, Guerin remained in control of the game behind 16-20 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. For the game, the Eagles hit 31-40 free throws.
Guerin won 63-56 behind 20 points from Joseph Bobilya. He also had three rebounds and three assists. Bernie McGuinness recorded 17 points and six rebounds. Cameron Weitzel finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kaleb Edwards filled the stat sheet with six points, eight rebounds, two steals, two assists, and a block.
Redmond led Chatard with 17 points and four steals. Mastrian added 11 points and sevn rebounds. Noah Carter chipped in eight points. Sam Richey contributed four points and six rebounds.
