Indiana Basketball Source’s number five (Brownsburg) and eleven teams (Fishers) met Friday night in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.
With Brownsburg front-liner Malek Edmonds in street clothes, Fishers went to Jeff Simmons in the paint for the first points of the game. It looked like something that the Tigers were going to be able to lean on going forward.
On Brownsburg’s first possession, Connor Lucas knocked down a three-pointer. He connected on four three-pointers in the game. Alex Szilagyi, who has been out for nine games with a knee injury, answered with a three of his own. The Fishers senior displayed no rust as he played over 20 minutes.
With three minutes left in the first quarter, Simmons scored and converted the three-point play to pull Fishers within 11-8 of Brownsburg. The Bulldogs began to build a lead from there. Pierce Thomas took a rebound coast to coast for a dunk to extend Brownsburg’s lead to nine points.
Down ten points early in the second half, Fishers received a scoring boost from Geoffrey Brown and Drew Turner. The duo combined for seven quick points to get the Tigers back in the game.
Minutes later, Connor Lucas went on a personal 7-0 run to push Brownsburg’s lead back to double digits. Lucas had a game-high 25 points.
In the fourth quarter, Brownsburg’s lead soared passed 20 points, and the game was never in doubt during the final period. After some late points by Fishers, Brownsburg won 61-45.
Lucas went 9-14 from the field and 4-7 from three-point range on his way to 25 points. Quentin Bragg went 3-5 from deep as he scored 11 points. Pierce Thomas finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Luke Lacey added five points and five assists. Jakobie McGowan had five points and three steals. McGowan battled a taller Simmons in the paint quite well.
Simmons had nine points and five rebounds for Fishers. Alex Szilagyi had nine points as well. Drew Turner added seven.
