The Wildcats came in averaging 68 points per game, but it was evident early on that this game was going to be played at Carmel's pace. The Greyhounds shut off driving lanes and allowed LN to pass the ball around on the perimeter, but were able to keep them from attacking the rim. Carmel was hurt by a few early turnovers that allowed Lawrence North to get out in transition, where they took every opportunity and converted regularly.
DJ Hughes fought off double teams to pin two fouls on Carmel forward Charlie Williams within the first 3 minutes of the game. Hughes and Perkins would have eight of Lawrence North's 12 first quarter points, but a late Greyhound bucket would give them a one point advantage after the opening period.
The pace stayed slow in the second, but Lawrence North would regain the lead as DJ Hughes was able to free himself from the double teams to score a pair of buckets in the quarter.
The third quarter began quick, as each team traded three pointers early. Jackson Jannsen, Pete Suder, and Wil Leary would each hit three pointers for Carmel, but turnovers again gave Lawrence North the opportunity to get out in the open floor. One of Omar Cooper Jr.'s four steals on the night led to a Tony Perkins dunk that he caught off the backboard from Cooper, which gave Lawrence North a two point lead.
Wil Leary's third three pointer of the night would give Carmel a 37-36 lead with over two minutes left, but Lawrence North would quickly regain a one point advantage. It appeared Carmel would grab the lead back, as a clear lane along the baseline allow Wil Leary a path to the basket, but DJ Hughes would come from the other side of the lane to block it at the last second.
The teams would trade turnovers with over a minute and a half left. The Wildcats would work a minute off of the clock, but Omar Cooper's pass out of a trap went over the head of a teammate out of bounds, giving the ball back to Carmel. After a few fouls by Lawrence North, who entered the last minute with only two team fouls in the half, Carmel would inbound the ball with 5.9 seconds left. The ball would find Pete Suder, who missed a floater from about 12 feet out. On that possession, the clock never started, however. After an officials' meeting, they put 1.9 on the clock and gave possession to Lawrence North, who had secured the rebound off of Suder's miss. Shamar Avance would get fouled with one tenth left on the clock, and his free throw provided the final margin.
